The discussion of faith, and in particular the role of knowledge in faith, has been one of the early topics raised among Muslim thinkers. Some considered (rational) knowledge to be the same as faith, some considered it to be part of it and some considered it to be outside of it; and some considered it to be an active and voluntary matter, and some considered it to be passive and involuntary. These different interpretations have sometimes led to a distance between faith and rational knowledge, and in the process, the separation of rationalism from fideism. However, Muslim mystics spoke of a Faithful wisdom that refers to the union of the two. From their perspective, reason and faith are both divine lights that are based on a kind of proportion, reflected in the mirror of a spiritual disposition organized by human free will, and their realization depends on human free will. In this article, while describing the views raised on faith and reason, the truth of faith and faith-reason has been examined and analyzed with regard to the two components of proportion and spiritual disposition from the perspective of Muslim mystics.
